Library Services aim to facilitate inclusive access to its learning and teaching resources.
Borrowing Library Resources
You will need your student ID card to borrow resources in the Library.
Books, DVDs and CDs
These library resources will auto-renew unless they have been requested by another library user, in which case you will be notified via your student email. Extensions on loan periods apply:
One week loan resources – these may be borrowed for one additional week.
High demand (two day) resources – these may be borrowed for up to one week.
Digital audio recorders and laptops
These media resources may be borrowed for up to one week and then must be returned to the library to be renewed/returned. They must be renewed/returned at the library from which they were borrowed
Physical Access to Libraries for Students with Mobility Restrictions
Cardiff: the library is on a single level of the ground floor of the Atrium building.
Glyntaff: the library has a ground floor entrance and there is an internal lift for access to the first floor.
Newport City: the library is on the first floor with an internal lift from the ground floor.
- The entrance to the library is located part way up a flight of stairs and is accessible via an external lift. In the event of a problem with this lift, disabled students requiring access to the library should call 01443 48 3400. Library staff can provide access at street level 9:00 – 17:00 via an alternative entrance.
- There is an internal lift between Level 1 (ground floor) and Level 2 (first floor), and a lift between Level 2 and the raised study area.
- Access between Level 2 and the Hirwaun building is via the library staff offices. Please ask at the Advice Zone Desk (Level 1) if you wish to access the Hirwaun building or in TRH005 if you wish to access the library.
Evac chairs are available for mobility restricted users and alternative exit routes are available from all parts of the buildings in the case of an emergency.
Cardiff: disabled parking spaces are in the car park at the rear of the building.
Glyntaff: disabled parking spaces are close to the front entrance of the library.
Newport City: parking spaces are available at the rear of the campus. Advance notice is required unless you have a card which allows permanent access (see Further information below).
Treforest: disabled parking spaces are close to the library.

PC software and height adjustable desks
All USW libraries have designated height adjustable desks and all computers have Inspiration (mind-mapping) and TextHELP (Read & Write) software. Identified computers have Supernova (screen-reader) software.
